Sharing Gardens
back to Ramblings

Butterfly takes a painting class (pastels) once a week and one of the topics she is always discussing during class (when she should be listening to the teacher) is flowers.  She is happy to discuss her own flowers, of course, but she is always happy to discuss other people flowers, too.

When I wrote in a recent blog that Butterfly and I do all of our own gardening, one of Butterfly’s fellow art students wrote in to say that he’s the sole gardener in his family.  He also has a pretty nice website, so I’m not quite sure how he gets all the painting, gardening and writing done.  Just the other day he let us know that his hundreds of daffodils are in full bloom and that we should come for a little garden tour.  Never ones to pass up visiting a garden, Butterfly and I were at his house practically before he could hang up the phone after giving me directions.

Butterfly & Paul

Butterfly and Paul didn’t quit teasing each other the whole time we were there.

daffodils as far as the eye can see

Paul’s daffodils are absolutely gorgeous.

my favorites

My favorites are the yellow ones with the orange centers.

my favorites

No, wait, my favorite ones are the white ones with the yellow centers.

OVERLOAD!  OVERLOAD!  OVERLOAD!  I give up.  I love them all.

Paul has paths wandering throughout his garden.  Follow one and you will arrive at a beautiful little shade garden that he built for his wife when she was diagnosed with cancer.  He wanted a special place for her to have in the garden when she came home from the hospital.  As the centerpiece he used an old stained glass window from a church.  It had been gathering dust in his garage for quite some time.

I’d say Paul’s wife is a lucky lady.

wait for me!

Paul’s old dog, Chica, followed us around the garden.  She also visited the neighbors.  He told us she doesn’t go far – she just likes to sample their cat’s food.

go fish

He also has some resident fish in a small pond.  He has to keep netting over the entire pond to keep his resident fish or they become raccoon food.

as pretty as the daffodils

We left Paul to his beautiful gardens so he could get back to work, with an invitation to come see our gardens when he has some free time.  His garden is going to part of the Master Gardeners’ tour in a few months, so he’s feeling pressured to “clean house” – so to speak.  We think he’ll be just fine.  The garden will shine!
