Weekend Fun
back to Ramblings
Queenabelle was here for a few short days before jetting off to see her son for the rest of this week. Needless to say, we made the most of our time together.
If it’s not raining, she knows the dogs would like to go for a walk.

Alhtough you can only see 6, there are 7 dogs in tow

For me, it’s cleaning up after the injured horse.

Fifinella & I discuss whether or not to change her leg wrap
|
Queenabelle apparently wanted to document me doing physical labor.
First on her list of things to do was to pay a visit to our friends’ restaurant, Katrina’s, where you can enjoy the finest breakfast or lunch this side of Aix-en-Provence.
Queenabelle always comments on how much food we Americans eat. Just to drive that point home, a little surprise was delivered to our table.
We took her to visit Nevada City, a little gold mining town not far from us.
Queenabelle took this picture and it reminded me of Fifinella’s friend who is currently stationed in Afghanistan. I put it in an email and fired it off to him. He was pleased to get it and told me he just narrowly missed getting injured (or worse) in a rocket attack so I’m counting the days (as is he) until he returns.
Here are some more “sight-seeing” photos around town:

Old and modern modes of transportation

We picked a restaurant for lunch and had to wait for it to open. I killed time by leaning against a lamp post and having a discussion with a nice dog tied to a parking meter, waiting for his mistress.
I know it looks like the dog is snarling at me, but trust me on this, it’s not. It’s smiling at me. I think.
There were some tourists sitting on a bench and I suggested that they take a picture of the three of us. Queenabelle handed her camera to the nice man and he started backing away, saying “You have this so zoomed in I can’t get all of you in the screen.”
Queenabelle said, “You can zoom it out, you know!”
When he was about ½ a mile up the street he shouted, “No, I’ve got it now! I can see all 3 of you!” Click.

how not to frame a picture
|
What the heck?! Where’s Electric Horseman? What happened is Queenabelle’s face? I look smashing, I know, but seriously, that isn’t what we were going for!
“Sir,” I said to the nice picture-taking-challenged stranger, “let’s try this again, if you don’t mind.”
I told Queenabelle to frame the shot, paint footprints on the sidewalk for him to stand in, and let him try it again.
Better, if we weren’t all at a tilt. Sigh. But you get what you pay for!
Once inside the restaurant we enjoyed a lovely meal and …

she laughs at all my jokes

… a few good laughs, as usual!
Once outside, Queenabelle and I started in doing what we most enjoy, taking pictures.
Not to change the subject, but I just have to share with you the first blooms at our place.
Sunday turned out to be a rainy day perfect for watching old movies. Queenabelle loves to catch up on American movies that she may have missed, so we went through our collection of DVD’s – Robert Redford ones, to be exact. The poor dear had never seen “The Electric Horseman”, of all things, if you can believe that! She also wanted to see “Mamma Mia” so we had our day planned in short order. I had “The Great Gatsby” queued up, but somehow we never got to it. We enjoyed a lovely picnic in front of TV (complete with champagne), followed by this delectable dessert served by garçon Electric Horseman.
You’re not going to believe what I did next to poor Queenabelle …
