'Tis the Season
back to Ramblings

‘Tis the season for fairs – crafts fairs, artisans’ fairs, you-name-it fairs.  The weather is crisp; the leaves have turned (or, in some places, fallen completely).  Holiday madness is in the air before we’ve even recovered from Thanksgiving dinner!

Electric Horseman and I could have stayed home today and cleaned gutters, hauled firewood, and done endless other chores around this place.  Instead we chose to head up the hill to a couple of little old mining towns’ annual pre-holiday celebrations.

Some people head for the mall.  We head for the hills.

"Joy to the world ..."

It’s not a Christmas crafts fair without carolers.

I was most amused with some elves I discovered.  At least I guess that’s what you’d call them.

As at most of these events, there was a team of draft horses hitched to a wagon, giving rides to shoppers to get them into the spirit of the season.  A second pair of horses, “horses in waiting” I suppose, were being tended to by these little antlered elves.

Horses in waiting

I said to Electric Horseman, “Get a load of the elves tending the horses!  The horses are snoozing and the elves are busy paying them no attention whatsoever.  Exactly what are they doing?  Let me zoom in on them with my camera.   I feel a blog coming on.”

He just heaved a big sigh and relieved me of my purse so that I could concentrate on ducking and dodging pesky shoppers who kept getting in my way.

What's happened to the elf?

Oh my gosh, Elf Number One has collapsed on her steed!  Is she exhausted?  Is she laughing?  Elf Number Two seems unconcerned and continues eating.

Wait!  She’s back up!

Look at what she's holding!  Not the reins!

Elf Number One is texting!  Of course!  Why didn’t I think of that?  What else would an elf on a horse be doing but texting???!!!

Getting a closer look at that screen

Yes, it’s a sign of the times when you see an antlered, texting elf.
