A Piece of Cake
back to Ramblings

I was so glad that I had thought to bring my camera with us to the fair.  There were just so many fun things to see and share with you!  If this blog doesn’t make your tongue slap your brains out (Chief, are you listening?), nothing will.  This may only happen, however, if you have a sweet tooth.

Let’s start out with the Giant Cookie Competition, shall we?

M&M madness

This is a cookie only a mother can love.  And, since I’m a mother, I did.  Don’t you think that if you pile on enough M&Ms you can make anything taste good?

Score!

Here’s a cookie made by a sports fiend.  Not an M&M in sight … sigh …

Hooked!

A fish!  What a brilliant idea!  What’s more appetizing than a fishy cookie???!!!  Again, the M&Ms save the day.

All kidding aside, I loved the kids’ creations and the fact that their moms let them have so much fun and learn to bake at the same time.

Now let’s move on to the Cake Competition.

Yee haw!

Obviously we’ve moved into the adult section.  This is serious cake decoration.  When (if) I make a cake, I slap on some frosting and call it good.  It would never enter my mind to do something like this.

Love the cactus

These people even paid attention and used the theme of this year’s fair – “Barnyard Buckaroos” – I hope they got extra points for that!

Flip flops?!!

Wait!  What the heck?  We’re seriously off-theme here.  What beach bum made this?

a fish out of water

An aquarium???!!!  What barnyard did this artist come from?  Nice work, but what about the theme, people?!

Vertigo ...

Now I’m just plain confused.  This cake is beautiful, but I’ve never seen anything close to this in my barnyard.  Maybe if I ate the toadstools that grow in the manure …

baby buckaroo?

Adorable, but again, where’s the buckaroo?  Replace that little duck with a boot and you would have had a winner!  (See why they don’t invite me to judge these events …)

royalty

This one left me speechless (almost).  I felt like I should have worn my tiara just to be in its presence.  And yes, I do have a tiara.  It’s a fake one.  For those days when I feel like a princess.  I can’t remember when I last wore it.

Barnyard Buckaroo

NOW WE’RE TALKIN’!  Finally, a real barnyard buckaroo cake if I’ve ever seen one.  This one so impressed me that I took another picture of it.

an Appaloosa

I pronounced this delectable work of art the grand prize winner.  No one cared.  But I felt it captured the true ambience of the fair, the feelings, the competitions, the highs, the lows – ok, I’ll shut up.  It did make me laugh.

Finally, let's finish with a cake that it seems you can count on seeing every year at this fair, to heck with the theme.

time to clean the pan

Yes, folks, it’s the Kitty Litter Cake.  Just in case you want to make one of your very own, I’ve gone to the trouble of finding the recipe for you – just click here.  It’s ok, it was no trouble.
